Fall is the perfect time for family, friends, and fun. When the weather starts to change, it’s time to get out and enjoy one of Anne Arundel County’s many fall events. From pumpkin patches to corn mazes and haunted houses, there are lots of fun things to do in the cooler months in our part of Maryland.
The Maryland Renaissance Festival (Sept-Oct 2022)
The Maryland Renaissance Festival is a popular annual event held in Crownsville, MD. It takes place between September to October and has been running since 1971. The festival offers several different areas of entertainment, including jousting matches, comedy shows, live music performances, puppet shows, and more. The ticket prices range from $40 for adults to $20 for kids aged 5-12 (children under 5 are free). Additional fees apply if you want to purchase food or drinks at the festival.

The Annapolis Film Festival (AAF)
The Annapolis Film Festival (AAF) is an annual film festival that takes place every spring in Annapolis, Maryland. The festival was established in 2013 by local filmmaker Paul Barkenbush. It is hosted at the historic Annapolis City Dock and various other locations throughout the city. Each year’s event features more than 60 films from around the world including feature-length narratives, documentaries, shorts, and student films.

The National Folk Festival is a celebration of music, dance, and crafts from around the world. The festival has been held annually since 1967 with performances from over 300 artists representing cultures as diverse as Brazilian samba to Native American stomp dancing to Irish step dancers. You can also watch demonstrations of many different types of folk art skills including blacksmithing and basketry or visit the Bazaar Marketplace for unique handcrafted items from local artisans. In addition to the entertainment throughout the day, there will be live auctions featuring antique furniture pieces from around Maryland that are up for bid by those attending along with some other very cool items!
The Chesapeake Celtic Festival features live musical performances on Friday night followed by an all-day Saturday concert featuring bands like Emerald Rose (Irish), Cúl Táirde (Irish), Paddy’s Pig (Scottish), Leitrim Crossing (American/Celtic Rock). There will also be food vendors selling traditional fares such as Corned Beef & Cabbage plus plenty of craft demonstrations throughout both days showcasing fiber arts such as spinning wool into yarns using drop spindles or weaving baskets made out of reeds obtained locally along our shores here in Maryland.

The Midshipman Marathon is an annual event that raises money for local charities and takes place in Annapolis. In its eighth year, this running event has grown in popularity over the years and continues to draw participants from across the country. There are several ways to get involved: you can run or walk the course, drive a vehicle to transport other runners or volunteers or volunteer your time behind the scenes. Runners can choose from 5k, 10k, and half marathon distances while volunteers help with logistics before and after each race.

AARP will host its annual Safe Driving course in conjunction with the Anne Arundel Senior Center to train newer drivers on how to navigate safely during the Fall season. (October 9, 2022)
AARP is a national non-profit organization that provides services to people over 50. AARP Safe Driving Course is a free course offered by AARP, the National Safety Council, and other entities. The course is designed for drivers who have been licensed for less than three years, but anyone can take it.
The class will teach you how to safely drive during fall weather conditions as well as winter driving skills like managing traction and keeping your vehicle on the road while snowing or icing up in rain conditions.
Baltimore’s Inner Harbor will come alive with sights and sounds during one of Maryland’s most popular festivals, Waterfront Week. (October 10, 2022)
Waterfront Week is one of Baltimore’s biggest festivals, drawing tens of thousands of visitors each year. At this festival, you can see the city and celebrate Maryland by enjoying local businesses and events.
The Maryland Zoo will be home to a two-day celebration of all things Halloween during the annual Spooky Safari event. (October 15-16, 2022)
Spooky Safari is a two-day event that takes place at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. The fundraiser benefits the zoo’s conservation efforts and education programs for children. Spooky Safari features live music, food, and activities for all ages!

The third weekend in October brings lots of Halloween fun and entertainment as Dundalk celebrates its annual Halloween festival. The event is held on the grounds of Dundalk High School, which is located at 823 Central Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21222. There are games, prizes, and activities for kids as well as adults. There is a costume contest for children ages 6-12 years old and 13-17 years old where they can win prizes and coupons (see website for complete details). There will also be food trucks available during the event along with live music provided by local bands.
Celebrate Halloween at Sandy Point State Park during its annual “Haunted Historic Trades” event. (October 27-30, 2022)
Located in the southern part of Anne Arundel County, Sandy Point State Park has been a popular destination for locals and visitors for many years. The park is home to historic buildings, including several that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Sandy Point Museum houses exhibits on the area’s history and ecology; visitors can learn about how native Americans lived off the land as well as how European settlers came to live there in later times. There are also numerous recreational activities available at this park, including hiking trails through forests or along beaches, fishing in ponds stocked with bass and bluegill fish (currently closed), picnicking facilities with tables and grills available on weekends only during fall months from April through October 1st., camping at one of six campsites that can be reserved depending on availability starting January 10th through March 31st each year at $20 per night fee plus $10 non-refundable reservation fee across all sites except Campsite B which charges $18/night plus $5 non-refundable reservation fee if booked more than 30 days before arrival date (reservations must be made 24 hours prior).

Turkey Trot returns to Anne Arundel County on Thanksgiving Saturday as part of a countywide effort to raise money for people in need of food assistance. The race, which was first held in 1989 and takes place on Thanksgiving morning and afternoon each year, is a 5K fun run that benefits the Food Bank of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. There is an entry fee; donations from last year’s event were used to provide more than 563 tons of food for more than 30 local agencies. The county will be awarding trophies for the best costumes this year; participants are encouraged to get creative with their attire!
